Not great Kane art, perhaps, but early Kane art. This was an illustration I did sometime during the 70’s on coquille board, which has a stipple tooth which creates a sort of autnomatic halftone. This was used for a flyer or advertisement for the first Wagner fanzine, Midnight Sun, published by Gary Hoppenstand, now Dr. Hoppenstand. The headline read, as I recall, The Dark Side of Epic Fantasy. The term "Dark Fantasy" was not yet part of common parlance. I tended to illustrate Kane just before or just after an event. I always tried to make it clear that, though he might have a temporary rush of joyous frenzy, the full weight of his curse was never far from his mind. |
