The Cauldron

[Few glimmers in this issue of Karl's future writing style, but, perhaps, a hint of the contumacy that would remain part of his nature.]

After the outrage provoked by our Walpurgis Nacht issue - people were more easily outraged in those days - and dire warnings from our advisor Laughing Ben Sparks, we published our special Serious Issue. Karl strove to meet the standards now demanded of us, and to bring the Knoxville Junior Academy of Science newsletter more in line with the character of the KJAS programs by purging this issue of any thing remotely interesting. Actually, the KJAS board was delighted with this issue's more scholarly approach; Karl's youthful sarcasm went unrecognized.
